Because only together we can
build a world where every child is safe, strong & educated.
WHO WE ARE
Shuruaat – Ek Jyoti Siksha Ki, is a non-profit organization located in Allahabad of Sangam Nagri, Uttar Pradesh. The group are education enforcers for the children living in the slums of Allahabad.
In September of 2016, Mr. Abhishek Shukla – paediatrician, Abhishek Shukla, became aware of the situation in the slums and was determined to help. In response, Abhishek began to treat patients living in Jhuggi Basti and on footpaths. When having to expand his area of work, Abhishek found the need to visit the slums more frequently. On being forced to wade through the mud, garbage, and filth that surrounded the diminutive shelters, Abhishek was horrified at the difficulty that the people had to live in. After noticing that the same condition in several areas around Allahabad, he concluded that slums were also evidently hindering the level of education being provided to the Slum Children.
Shuruaat is an organization that targets the real issue; Slum Education, while still being sensitive to the complex issues the child might have to deal with when living under the International Poverty line. These difficulties may include domestic violence, insufficient money or food, child labour, poor medical care, etc.
OUR APPROACH
We facilitate safe learning spaces
Shuruat conducts classes in slums and streets daily. Over 100 children and women in informal settlements are benefited with this education and are mentored to deal with the daily problems they are facing involving shelter, unsafe livelihood, insanitary conditions, forced labor & beggary and many evils in the streets. Poverty Saddles these children with responsibility to earn for family for survival, thus they limit or forego their schooling, cutting short their future educational potential, career and social opportunities.
Shuruaat & Society
Shuruaat, which is enabling education for children in Slums, now take forward another important aspect of education, which is menstrual hygiene awareness. Taboo thoughts on menstruation and the surrounding superstitions around it has hindered women for long. Shuruaat, is helping girls and women make a beginning towards better menstrual health by breaking the wall of hesitation and bringing in menstrual health discussion in the community.
Shuruat organizes Health Checkup Camps time to time in slum areas. Dr. R K Shukla, a renowned pediatrician joins us in this effort to promote good health practices and cure disease.
Organizing blood donation camps is the perfect way to cater to the demand of blood and nurture compassion and empathy. Thus everyone contribute towards the society and save lives.
Shuruaat Ek Jyoti Siksha Ki Society also arranges for distribution of clothes and blankets to children in slum areas and the footpaths where we hold our classes. Many of the children attending our education programs hardly have any clothes to wear. Most come wearing only an old pair of shorts, often come to our programs naked. We try to arrange for clothes for all of these children, and in the winter we have a special distribution of winter blankets to help them keep warm at night.
Shuruaat has organizes time to time Social Activities like Sanitation Programs, Tree Plantation, Social Awareness programs and many more.
